{Last Meal}

I asked David what his "last meal" would be one time. You know, if he had to choose one.

Pizza and ice cream, he said.

I thought that was so cute. It's something he probably would've answered at six years old,
and it's still his answer at 36. ♥

We've always ordered our pizza. The bummer of it is, there aren't any great pizza places
really close to us. But the make-your-own-pizza-night we did for Christmas Eve taught
us we don't need to settle for so-so pizza. We've got the power for better pie. (Take that,
Pizza Factory.)

First, we tried something new that was suggested by Liz. She's a former ASU friend
and long time vegetarian who is now in LA chasing her dreams of becoming an actress.
(Go, Liz!) She posted this recipe -- pizza with ...

BBQ sauce
Vegetarian baked beans, drained
Cheese
Pineapple
Bell peppers
Vegan sausage

It reconfirmed something I seem to need to learn repeatedly, and that's that I don't like
meat substitutes. (I don't like meat in the first place. So, fake meat doesn't usually do
anything for me.) But I thought the pizza, sans vegan sausage, was excellent. David liked
having the meat flavor without having the actual sausage. (He's been trying to eat less
meat, which I think is nothing short of amazing.) Next time, we'll do half of this with
vegan sausage and half without.

The other pizza we made was an absolute star. Seriously, your life won't be complete
until you try this. One bite and you'll agree, I promise. I was compelled to make that
"mmm, this is amazing" groan with every single bite.

Extra virgin olive oil
Light cheese
Pre-baked slices of potato
Fresh rosemary
Topped with a light drizzle of oil and a sprinkle of kosher salt

It might not look like much, but it tastes like creamy, savory, perfect pizza heaven.
This combination makes me think that pizza could be my choice for a last meal, too.

Hey Sam,

The pizzas look soooo good! I would obviously love the one with potatoes! Another two combinations that you may want to try is zucchini slices with mozzarella cheese on top and the classic Margarita that has tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, a drizzle of olive oil and fresh basil, one of my faves!

hugs,

Ale

The first pizza looks amazing, but I would have to have real sausage. My take on "fake" meats is I'd rather go without it than to have a substitute. They always have an unsual taste to me.

Never thought about putting potatoes on a pizza, however, I love roasted potatoes, so I'm sure I'd really like this pizza too.
