{Sammy Sew-Sa}

I don't know what's more exciting, that I:
* got a sewing lesson
* finally know how to thread my machine
* finally used my machine
* actually sewed something.

I think they're all pretty damn great!

Sara came over last week to give me a sewing lesson. She's an excellent teacher! I was
thrilled with what I learned and the confidence I got out of our session together. For days
afterwards, I was bubbling with excitement.

Before our lesson, she gave me a list of all the things I needed to buy that included:
a seam ripper, rotary cutter, gauge, quilting ruler, pins and needles, scissors for fabric only,
and fabric for the project we'd make together.

She taught me how to thread my machine and made sure I could to do it without her
guidance. She had me practice sewing straight lines, circles and corners on paper, without
thread. Then, Sara showed me how to make an envelope pillow. My very own pillow sewn
with my very own sewing machine! The project allowed me to learn how to use all the tools,
measure, cut, do seams, and actually create something. Being able to put my new found
knowledge into action right away was really exciting. More importantly, having a visual
demonstration helped me absorb the things she explained. I had a finished product by the
time our lesson was through, and I felt like I learned a lot in just a few hours.

It was awesome.

This is my finished product -- an envelope pillow cover with 'lil pumpkins on it.
I've had it on the couch as a throw pillow, and Killian has already put it to use. :)

Thanks, again and again, Sara!
Up next: I will attempt to make one of these on my own.

You look so cute and proud holding up your pillow! I love sewing! My mom taught me when I was 11, and I had about a thousand scrunchies I made myself from all her scraps of material. There is something so gratifying when you go from a pile of material to a beautiful finished product. Great job!
