{Putting Her Best Foot Forward}

Catch this. It's a pretty cool story.

A friend of a friend of a friend got a few cases of wine given to her for a charitable cause.
She used them for said cause but had one case of wine left over. Being the good person she
is, she wanted to use that wine to pay it forward. So, she and some friends (including Kim
Baldwin) came up with an idea ...

... to use the case of wine to host a wine and hors d'oeuvres fundraiser in honor of Martha
Kuhn. Martha is preparing to walk in her fourth Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer 3-Day
Walk for the Cure. Each year, Martha raises $2,300 and then walks 60 miles in three
days to help battle breast cancer. Her friends decided they would help her get an early
jump on her fund raising in 2010.

They asked for a donation of $25 from each person in attendance. They also held a
raffle in which people and local business donated items. Guests could buy three
tickets for $10 and put their raffle tickets in front of items they wanted to enter to win.

I offered to make a slideshow for the event. Martha provided me with some great photos
and some of the music I used. I was so pleased with how it turned out!

They held the event on Saturday night (the 20th). Martha raised $1,100!

I thought this was an awesome example of what being a good human being is all about!
- Martha for her dedication to fund raising and walking in the 3-Day year after year.
- Kim and her friends for paying it forward and helping Martha.
- People who don't even know each other coming together for a good cause.
- The generous spirit of a few can making a big difference.
It's just all good stuff.

Ahhh...I'm all choked up! Think I'll sign myself up to the 3 day. I've always wanted to...might as well not put it off anymore.

Thank you for this!

You told me about this story and I was just as amazed with it then as I am now when I read your post and tried to watch your video. (Sorry, my hormones are taking over and I can't listen to that song without Jack asking me if I'm Ok!)

I think it'd be a great idea to hold this event annually! It's just a fantastic idea!

Good job on the video too! What I saw was very touching. :o)

Thanks, Jen! I really appreciate that. If you can get about 3/4 of the way into it, there's a funny part! Right where the graphic says, "Martha found out the people who do this walk ... are a little NUTS."

I love the transition in the music there and the photos that follow!
It just worked out really well. :)

All that pink is very inspiring.

Two years ago my mother-in-law was in the last stages of chemo-therapy treatment for breast cancer. The treatment was very hard on her. They say that the greatest risk factors for developing breast cancer are: being female and aging. This was an eye opening experience for me. I have a wife and two daughters.

During that time, and in the months since Dorrie began this ordeal, we have acquired a lot of pink ribbons around our house. We joined the Race for the Cure, whose slogan is: Today we fight a bully.
We don’t fight the bully. They do. The women in the pink shirts, with the hats and the scarves on their heads. We offer support, we do what we can. But each of those brave women, ultimately, face this monster alone. They wouldn’t say that, but I will. Seeing the survivor’s parade at the Race for the Cure rally was one of the most moving experiences of my life. They are strong.
